چکیده
The present study evaluated different sludge-reduction mechanisms in the oxic-settling-anaerobic (OSA) process terms of their effects on methane productivity by anaerobic digestion sewage sludge. Two layouts were investigated for sludge return from an side-stream reactor (ASSR) to anoxic (scheme A) or aerobic B) a pre-denitrification plant. Biochemical methane-potential (BMP) assays performed excess revealed that scheme A promoted overall increase production OSA (20 mLCH4 gVSS−1d−1, +19%), although compared with control CAS plant significant decrease (31%) was obtained. Operating conditions caused occurrence cell lysis and EPS hydrolysis, thereby increasing biodegradability In contrast, B favoured uncoupling maintenance metabolism did not involve hydrolysis. Consequently, despite higher reduction (82%), (4 −41%) observed. Based results, implementing may allow high levels be maintained if specific are triggered waterline, also raising possibility co-digestion other feedstocks.

Methane Production By Anaerobic Co-Digestion Of Sewage Sludge And Wheat Straw Under Mesophilic Conditions
This study investigated the possibilities of improving methane yield production from, the anaerobic co-digestion of wheat straw (WS) and primary sludge (PS). The batch experiment was conducted under mesophilic conditions. Different mixtures of WS and PS depending on its C/N ratio were carried out to investigate the optimum C/N ratio for effective methane production. The cumulative methane yield...
متن کاملA modified oxic-settling-anaerobic activated sludge process using gravity thickening for excess sludge reduction
Oxic-settling-anaerobic process (OSA) was known as a cost-effective way to reduce the excess sludge production with simple upgrade of conventional activated sludge process (CAS). A low oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) level was the key factor to sludge decay and lysis in the sludge holding tank of the OSA process. However, the ORP control with nitrogen purge or chemical dosing in the OSA pro...

متن کاملAnaerobic co-digestion of coffee waste and sewage sludge.
The feasibility of the anaerobic co-digestion of coffee solid waste and sewage sludge was assessed. Five different solid wastes with different chemical properties were studied in mesophilic batch assays, providing basic data on the methane production, reduction of total and volatile solids and hydrolysis rate constant. Most of the wastes had a methane yield of 0.24-0.28 m3 CH4(STP)/kg VS(initia...
